QuantifiCare v. Canfield Scientific: German Federal Supreme Court Upholds QuantifiCare’s LifeViz® Infinity Patent
On July 23, 2024, the German Federal Supreme Court confirmed the validity of the German part of QuantifiCare’s European patent 3 156 843 in last instance, reinforcing the company’s legal protections for its innovative LifeViz® Infinity technology. With this ruling, QuantifiCare is prepared to defend its intellectual property rights against any products that infringe upon its patent and, thus, counterfeit essential aspects of the LifeViz® Infinity technology.
About QuantifiCare’s European Patent 3 156 843:
QuantifiCare filed a French patent application on October 14, 2015, to protect essential aspects of the LifeViz® Infinity, the world’s first portable, all-in-one 3D imaging system for the face, breast, and body. Within a year, the regional scope was extended to cover Europe and the US, laying the foundation for the successful launch of the LifeViz® Infinity system.
The European Patent Office officially announced the grant of European patent 3 156 843 on April 18, 2018, which solidified QuantifiCare’s position as an innovator in the market. However, in response to a patent infringement suit filed by QuantifiCare against Canfield Scientific in Germany, Canfield Scientific contested the validity of QuantifiCare’s European patent in Germany with a nullity action dated November 18, 2020,
The final ruling by the German Federal Court of Justice in July 2024 upheld QuantifiCare’s patent in full, marking a significant victory in the company’s efforts to protect essential aspects of its pioneering LifeViz® Infinity technology.
